Vivienne Westwood and Stephen Jones have teamed up with photo-illustrative photographer Simon Procter on the launch image for Royal Ascot 2011.

The image consists of a racing scene overlaid with fashion photography, as models pose in two bespoke couture pieces and one demi-couture piece from Westwood’s Gold Label collection, against a background of Ascot dating from 1818. Westwood’s dresses pay homage to the past; the black and white frock is inspired by Audrey Hepburn’s dress from the racing scene in My Fair Lady, while the ombre silk dress in the centre reflects early Victorian-era fashions, constructed with a special taffeta fabric which features 300 different, individually colour-dyed hues.

Meanwhile, Jones’ hats similarly recreate historic style moments, from the ombre silk period bonnet from the first century of Ascot (centre hat) to the Edwardian fascinator (left), which riffs on Cecil Beaton’s designs for My Fair Lady. Finally, a signature top hat – made of lacquered straw – is seen at right, complementing Westwood’s lipstick red suit.

Remaining true to production formats in the late 1800’s, the bespoke couture has been specially constructed from a select taffeta, named Quality Viola, using 300 different colours, with each and every thread individually colour dyed.

Vivienne Westwood comments on her involvement: “Royal Ascot is a British institution for showing off clothes and I like to take advantage of any opportunity to do that.”

Royal Ascot will take place from 14 June to 18 June, and fashion fans should look out for the daily fashion show featuring designers like Westwood and Jones, plus Amanda Wakeley and House of Hardy Amies. Tickets are now on sale.

This spring, Polo Ralph Lauren expands its shoppable children’s online storybook collection with the introduction of TheRL Gang: A Magically Magnificent School Adventure.

Showcasing Ralph Lauren Childrenswear Spring 2011 collection, the new RL Gang video is narrated by award-winning actress and mother Uma Thurman, and launches globally today, March 3 on its website, and March 31 on The Bay.

In celebration of the launch, Polo Ralph Lauren is hosting an international search for one lucky child to be cast in an upcoming installment of the RL Gang. The contest, which will live on the RL Gang tab on Ralph Lauren’s Facebook page, will allow parents in the US and UK to upload a photo of their child and share that photo with friends and family, asking them to vote for their child. The winning child will be chosen from the group of children with the most votes, flown to New York and cast as a member of the RL Gang!

As Polo Ralph Lauren is dedicated to children everywhere and the preservation of the arts and education, they will donate 15% of all proceeds from the first month of sales of the Childrenswear Spring 2011 collection on RalphLauren.com to Room to Grow–a charitable organization chosen by Uma Thurman. Room to Grow is an innovative program which provides parents raising babies in poverty with one-on-one parenting support and essential baby items throughout their children’s critical first three years of development.

Despite being Tuesday, it is always a good day for being a Cheap Monday.

It all started back in 2004 when Swedish brand Cheap Monday launched its now classic skinny jeans and skull logo. It succeeded in its aim of bringing to the public well designed jeans without the designer price tag. Since then it has continued to expand its collection with more casual yet covetable pieces.
At the heart of the new collection is a mix of the exaggerated and the minimalistic, showcasing water colour designs and bold graphic prints. Silhouettes are cropped and round with a slightly sporty vibe giving you a cleaner more focused look for Spring/Summer 2011.

If you are already outh-watering, give it a try and go to your nearest OU store or if feeling moody as weather these days, hit their website.
