London College of Fashion has teamed up with Savile Row tailors Henry Poole & Co and fabric supplier Dormeuil to mark the 150th anniversary of the tuxedo.

The high regard for the standard of work at both these prestigious institutions speaks for itself, and is further confounded by the eager involvement of Harold Tillman CBE, who is chairman of the British Fashion Council, as well as former supermodel Marie Helvin, singer & producer Mr Hudson and the jeweller Robert Tateossian. All of these names have been photographed in their favourite tuxedos for a publication specially commissioned by LCF to further coincide with the ‘Little Black Jacket’ project.

The finished pieces will be touring internationally to destinations such as The Tuxedo Park in New York where the black jacket was first worn, as well as exhibited here in the UK in various pop-up locations such as the Burlington Arcade and Harrods.

The project reinvents the garment for the 21st century; The Little Black Jacket – Celebrating 150 years of the Tuxedo features a group of LCF BA (Hons) Bespoke Tailoring students who have partnered with actors from the Drama Centre at LCF’s sister college Central Saint Martins to create tailor made tuxedos.

Two films have also been produced to illustrate the creative process; a behind the scenes documentary and a black and white fashion short film. The work will travel to different destinations worldwide including a pop-up space in Harrods and the Burlington Arcade in London, as well as the Tuxedo Park in New York , where the black jacket was first worn in America.

Other international dates for 2012 will follow shortly. Additionally, LCF has commissioned a publication by bringing together high profile names including Chairman of the BFC Harold Tillman CBE; supermodel Marie Helvin; musician Mr Hudson, and jeweller Robert Tateossian, shot in their favourite tuxedos.
