Is Dior considering taking back Galliano?

FashionUnited reports:

It is the question on everyone’s lips associated with the fashion house. Now that talks with Marc Jacobs have been put on hold and other designers, including Phoebe Philo and Riccardo Tisco, have stated they are happy at their current houses Celine and Givenchy respectively, the options are numbered. And fashion designers have ego’s, nobody wants to be the 3rd, 4th or even 5th choice for fill Galliano’s shoes.

So who does that leave in the running? Perhaps American designers Jason Wu and Alexander Wang, but can we really see these young designers take the help of such an iconic French House. And could they execute couture?

According to Vogue.co.uk, increasing fashion opinion is that the return of a rehabbed, repentant and rejuvenated Galliano is the only answer. Manolo Blahnik and Franca Sozzani have already added their names to the list of those who would love to see him return, and Arnault said earlier this year that he couldn’t see anyone but Galliano in the job.

“I could have asked many other talented designers to do Dior, but it would not have been the same,” Arnault said in January. “Take Marc Jacobs, he has been a fantastic success at Vuitton and he has a proximity to the Vuitton spirit, but I don’t think it would have been a success with Jacobs at Dior and the other way around, if I had asked John Galliano to do Vuitton, it would not have worked. An essential ingredient in the success of the brand today is the real proximity of Galliano to the talent of Christian Dior.”

At this time of year many of us wish to remember and honour the brave troops who have fought for us in wars both modern and historic by wearing a red poppy pin. The Poppy Campaign is run by the Royal British Legion and, as well as raising awareness, raises much-needed money to help those who have been affected by fighting in conflicts.

You will be familiar with the paper poppies that can be bought on the High Street, but the Royal British Legion also have a range of beautiful red poppy jewellery to let you remember in style.

Last night, Uma Thurman, Blake Lively, Chace Crawford, Jessica Alba, Jennifer Hudson and Selma Blair were among the guests who joined Donatella Versace and H&M to celebrate the launch of Versace for H&M in New York. In a specially designed building on the Hudson River, Versace’s collection for H&M was shown on the catwalk, alongside some special iconic pieces created just for this exclusive runway show. These iconic Versace looks were worn on the catwalk by top models such as Abbey Lee, Daphne G, Natasha Poly, Sean O’pry and Lindsay Wixson. The show was followed by an after party which featured exclusive performances by Donatella Versace’s special guests, Prince and Nicki Minaj. The venue was decorated in true Versace style, with guests entering the world of Versace from the moment they set foot on the red carpet. The catwalk was paved with gold, the perfect environment in which to preview the Versace for H&M collection, which goes on sale at around 300 stores worldwide and online on November 17.

  • “It was the perfect evening, so glamorous and special. I loved celebrating the launch of Versace for H&M here in New York, an iconic city in which to showcase this iconic collection. Now I cannot wait for it to finally reach stores and be available to the world”, says Donatella Versace.
  • “Donatella Versace has taken us at H&M on an incredible journey since she began designing the collection for us earlier this year, and last night’s fashion event was the perfect culmination.  She has given us the essence of the Versace brand, and last night that came to life with a magical catwalk show that we’ll never forget”, says Margareta van den Bosch, creative advisor at H&M.
  • Outfits showcased on the catwalk were from the iconic Versace for H&M collection, which brings together different styles from the Versace archive. The long-awaited collection for H&M features such iconic pieces for women as draped metal mesh dresses, silk-crêpe dresses with gold buttons, multi-coloured panel print dresses and the classic Versace studded leather jacket, while for men there are sharp suits, printed sweaters and print shirts, and studded leather jackets and trousers.
  • The exclusive show also included unique creations that Versace designed especially for the evening.
  • “I think it is so exciting for Versace to made available to everyone. The collection is cool, colourful, young and very hip. I can’t wait to see the show,” said Uma Thurman.
  • “I am such a fan of Versace. The fits for a woman’s body are incredible. I’m also a huge fan of H&M. To have Versace at H&M is the best,” said Blake Lively
  • “Versace is so incredible and so glamorous. For kids to be able to buy it is wonderful. Donatella is an amazing woman,” said Selma Blair.

It’s boot season and we are here to help you get it right. Meet the boots that work hard at making you look great. Oh and we’ve teamed them with some of our favourite dresses just for the sake of it.

ISSUE 1: CANKLES

Even the slimmest of legs can end in a cankle. If you don’t know what that is then you have skipped this little body quirk where your calf and ankle are simply one entity. Lucky you. But if your calf and ankle are a little too well acquainted then you and your legs must rejoice in the end of summer and her obsession with cankle-accentuating strappy sandals. The knee-high boot is your friend. Enjoy drawing attention to your feet in these on-trend fringed knee-highs. By no means buy a pair of cropped ankle boots.

ISSUE 2: LEAN LEGS

People may scoff when you complain about your too-skinny legs but they just don’t know how tricky it can be to find a boot that doesn’t gape then drape when it shouldn’t or make your Legs Eleven look the wrong side of slim. Don’t try to bulk up your pins in puffed up fur-lined knee-highs but embrace their very leanness in a pair of ankle boots and invest in thick tights.

ISSUE 3: WIDE CALVES
Boots can be mean to you. You see them sitting there looking all perfect and then you try them on but, no matter how you press and pull, that side zip just won’t budge above the top of your ankle. Don’t force your legs in as the visual result is a very displeasing calf muffin top.  Happily footwear designers are acknowledging the fact that not all women are Elle MacPherson and some have a little more calf than, say, supermodels. So enjoy boots like these with a wider-leg fit. Phew.

All these gorgeous boots plus more, more, more to inspire you to a stylish winter are online now so check them out.
