Julianne Moore, Sarah Jessica Parker, Mena Suvari, Kanye West, Helena Christensen, Selma Blair, Alan Cumming and Chase Crawford were among the guests at a party last night in New York to celebrate H&M’s collaboration with Maison Martin Margiela. The unique event was held across many floors of 5 Beekman Street, a historical building in the city’s financial district. Guests were able to discover the collection in dance performances by noted choreographer Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker and through specially commissioned art installations, before DJ’s kept the party going into the early hours. The Maison Martin Margiela with H&M collection will be launched on November 15th in around 230 H&M stores worldwide.

“We are happy to present the Maison Martin Margiela with H&M collection in New York with this event. Maison Martin Margiela believes in showing its work outside of the traditional context. This mix of installation and performance captures the spirit of the house, and allowed the artists to interpret the collaboration collection in ways they saw fit.” Maison Martin Margiela.

“Tonight’s party has been such an exciting evening, full of surprises. In every room, on every floor, you never knew what you were going to find. The installations showed the Maison Martin Margiela collection with H&M in the most amazing and original way and we believe our customers will really appreciate this collection”, says Margareta van den Bosch, creative advisor at H&M.

The derelict and raw nine-story building, housed around a glass-roofed atrium, was the perfect setting for the celebration of Maison Martin Margiela with H&M, decorated in the label’s signature white-painted style. The famed choreographer Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker created a unique and beautiful performance in squares of sand, which ran throughout the evening on different floors. Anne Teresa and her dancers removed garments from the collection while performing, thus creating live and spontaneous art installations.

The collection with H&M, a series of re-editions of Maison Martin Margiela garments and accessories from various seasons, was further revealed in special art installations on various floors: artists Daniel Arsham, Frederique Chauveaux and Noemie Goudal, created sculptures, projections and photographs exclusively for the event

“It’s an amazing collaboration! Margiela is a beautiful brand – arty, iconoclastic and always edgy. And the quality is always amazing with H&M. Fashion is great because it’s an expression of who you are”, says Julianne Moore.

“It’s incredible, so exciting to celebrate one of my favourite designers. They are mysterious and compelling and I’ve been a great fan of Margiela for many years. H&M, well, look at the lines of men and women lined up! It’s a great opportunity for people to have access to great designers. It makes luxury available to everyone. It’s very democratic and I’m all for it”, says Sarah Jessica Parker.

“I’m a huge fan of Margiela and I love H&M – it’s a great collaboration. I never get surprised by H&M’s choices, every designer they pick I’m interested in. I’m always standing in the queue with my mother in the early mornings. I’ve been a fan of Margiela since the start”, says Helena Christensen.

“I’m here to see the lovely Margiela collection. I love the way H&M is doing collaborations with other designers. It’s a great thing, to make clothes stylish and affordable. The collaborations are a great idea, they are really amazing!” says Alan Cumming.

Is Dior considering taking back Galliano?

FashionUnited reports:

It is the question on everyone’s lips associated with the fashion house. Now that talks with Marc Jacobs have been put on hold and other designers, including Phoebe Philo and Riccardo Tisco, have stated they are happy at their current houses Celine and Givenchy respectively, the options are numbered. And fashion designers have ego’s, nobody wants to be the 3rd, 4th or even 5th choice for fill Galliano’s shoes.

So who does that leave in the running? Perhaps American designers Jason Wu and Alexander Wang, but can we really see these young designers take the help of such an iconic French House. And could they execute couture?

According to, increasing fashion opinion is that the return of a rehabbed, repentant and rejuvenated Galliano is the only answer. Manolo Blahnik and Franca Sozzani have already added their names to the list of those who would love to see him return, and Arnault said earlier this year that he couldn’t see anyone but Galliano in the job.

“I could have asked many other talented designers to do Dior, but it would not have been the same,” Arnault said in January. “Take Marc Jacobs, he has been a fantastic success at Vuitton and he has a proximity to the Vuitton spirit, but I don’t think it would have been a success with Jacobs at Dior and the other way around, if I had asked John Galliano to do Vuitton, it would not have worked. An essential ingredient in the success of the brand today is the real proximity of Galliano to the talent of Christian Dior.”

Last night, Uma Thurman, Blake Lively, Chace Crawford, Jessica Alba, Jennifer Hudson and Selma Blair were among the guests who joined Donatella Versace and H&M to celebrate the launch of Versace for H&M in New York. • “Donatella Versace has taken us at H&M on an incredible journey since she began designing the collection for us earlier this year, and last night’s fashion event was the perfect culmination.  She has given us the essence of the Versace brand, and last night that came to life with a magical catwalk show that we’ll never forget”, says Margareta van den Bosch, creative advisor at H&M.
  • Outfits showcased on the catwalk were from the iconic Versace for H&M collection, which brings together different styles from the Versace archive. Just saw the H&M´s F/W preview…and fell in love! Earthy hues, hot on trend orange and winter whites, paired with 70´s reminiscences and genius pieces as these boots that play it twice as booties!!

But if have to leave just with one piece, it´d definitely be this show-stopping caped coat. Wool long waistcoat with a zip and pockets at the front, and an attached cape with a press-stud and scarf…multi-tasking and on budget, how come you are not ordering it yet?

Enjoy it!

This coming Autumn promises to be a good review of the old good classics. Be ready to fly free and plunge into Swing new era. Take a walk at Carnaby Street for some inspiration, rescue your over knee high boots (preferably those with squared wooden heels)and team them up with flirty skater skirts and minis in acid colors. Keep your colored jeans out and give them a new twist with turtle neck sweaters in neutrals as beige, black or navy blue. Two pieces ensembles are a must, just pick the pair that suits you best, from twin-sets to structured mini-dresses and minimalist matching coats.

Think Seventies and look to Sixties style icons Mary Quant, Twiggy and Julie Christie. Make the most of your summer sales and grab a good pair of silky Palazzo trousers (as these by Zara: they are a good investment as also tick the bold color box, trend that arrived last Spring to stay) and chunky samdals, to be recycled by pairing them with thick knee high school shocks. Broad wing hats, fringed bags and earthy colours as mustard, orange and sand are the basics to spoe up your September wardrobe.

If you crave for every ad campaign by Polo Ralph Lauren, you´ll be thrilled with this year´s take on the posh school outfits. This checked blazer by La Redoute is a definite must to add to your basics collection.

If want to connect with your mosr glamorous inner trend setter, look back to the Forties. Vogue UK reports how Gucci, Miuccia Prada, Jean Paul Gaultier and Donna Karan have ushered in a season of sheer Forties glamour, complete with furs, pearls, gloves and shrugs – all revolving around the pencil skirt.
